BEATLE WIG toy
BEATLE WIG toy
The Beatles revolutionized pop music with their unique melodic sound. But their pop culture status went far beyond just music. Their style caused controversy and changed fashion across the board and that included their haircuts. The mop-top cut (so called because the long, stringy hair style resembled the strands of a mop) was unlike anything people had seen before. Traditional cuts had been short and neat, carefully held in place with copious amounts of Brylcreem. The Beatles haircuts were originally styled by Astrid Kircher, the girlfriend to original Beatles bassist Stuart Sutcliffe, and herself a rock photographer. The outrageous new cuts were long enough to touch ears, collars, and fall into the eyes.

When the Beatles came to America and found fame and fortune, they also found that kids were quickly copying their hair cuts. Boys rebelled against their parents and teachers by styling their hair long and loose to mimic their idols. But they met resistance. Viewed as a stance against authority, Beatles haircuts were banned in schools, and parents forbid their children to get the cut. But all was not lost. If the hair style was truly out of your reach, you could always buy a Beatles wig. That way, you could still rock out with your favorite band at the concert, but go home as a conservative young man to mom and dad.

Presented here is a rare original and "the only" Authentic Beatle Wig, made by the Lowell Toy Mfg. Corp., Bronx 56, NY. [The pre-zip code header card dates this to the early 1960s.] Very few of these have survived and even fewer in the original packaging. Maybe a handful of these exist in this condition today.

Beatles 3-ring looseleaf binder
Beatles 3-ring looseleaf binder
I've seen other examples of this vinyl-covered looseleaf binder, but they were pretty badly battered, torn, and scribbled upon. They did, after all, receive daily (ab)use by rowdy schoolchildren! This is the nicest one I've ever seen and also the first one I`ve seen in this rich pink color. The little girl who owned this must have been an A+ home economics student and/or a Beatles fanatic because this book is spotless! Excellent graphics, great pictures and facsimile signatures of the "fab four".

original Woodstock Music Festival unused 3 day ticket
original Woodstock Music Festival unused 3 day ticket
Woodstock was a music festival, billed as An Aquarian Exposition, held at Max Yasgur's 600 acre dairy farm in the rural town of Bethel, New York from August 15 to August 18, 1969. Bethel is 43 miles southwest of the village of Woodstock, New York, in adjoining Ulster County.

The festival exemplified the counterculture of the late 1960s/early 1970s and the "hippie era". Thirty-two of the best-known musicians of the day appeared during the sometimes rainy weekend in front of nearly half a million concertgoers. Although attempts have been made over the years to emulate the festival, the original event has proven to be unique and legendary. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest moments in popular music history and was listed on Rolling Stone's 50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock and Roll.

Presented here is an incredible original unused ticket to the Woodstock Music Festival.

Topps BEATLES COLOR PHOTOS trading cards wrapper
Topps BEATLES COLOR PHOTOS trading cards wrapper
Picture this, if you will...it`s 1964 -- a kid goes into the neighborhood candy store and buys a pack of these cards for a nickel. As he opens the pack, instead of crumpling up the wrapper and throwing it away, he decides that it is worth saving. He is, after all, a child with an artistic sensibility, and he likes the picture. He carefully unfolds the wrapper and places it between the pages of an encyclopedia for safekeeping.

No, my friends, this is not an autobiography, just a guess at how this delicate wrapper may have survived in such fine condition. A companion piece to the Topps Beatles Color Photos display box, this wrapper once held five Topps Beatles trading cards and a stick of gum.
