1964-65 NY World's Fair license plate
1964-65 NY World's Fair license plate
I wasn't old enough to drive in 1964 but my parents had a car, I believe it was a Dodge Polara, and we visited this World's Fair in Flushing Meadows three or four times... sorry, but looking at this license plate makes me feel very nostalgic!

1965 Mustang GT
1965 Mustang GT "fastback" 2+2
The Ford Mustang was introduced at the New York World's Fair in 1964. Over 20,000 Mustangs were sold in the first week of public release. Soon after, buyers demanded improved handling and performance. In response, Ford announced the GT ("Grand Turismo") option in April 1965. The GTs had larger engines and gas tanks, heavier suspension and springs, and better steering.

This gorgeous 1965 GT fastback is a highly optioned, completely restored Shelby clone. It has beautiful blue paint, a black interior, Rally pac, custom Mustang floor mats, dual exhaust pipes that exit the rear valence through decorative chrome trumpets, front fog lights, automatic transmission, disc brakes, and factory air conditioning. The rear seats fold forward to create a two-seater with a spacious interior cargo compartment. Under the hood is a 289 V8 engine, 4 barrel carburator, a chrome Monte Carlo bar, and a Shelby export brace. The engine compartment is painted the blue body color. There are five styled steel wheels with P205/70R 14 BF Goodrich Radial AT tires. A professionally installed Pioneer AM/FM cassette stereo system is the only "non-original" feature in the car. The vehicle is garage-kept, is routinely serviced, and received its 2001 state inspection in August. Needless to say, this car turns heads wherever it goes!! Vintage GT Mustangs in this fine condition are prized by collectors and car enthusiasts around the world.

It is interesting to note that while Ford chose the name "Mustang" to reflect the spirited image of the P-51 US World War II fighter plane named the Mustang, the public immediately associated the car with the untamed wild horse of the American West. Ford quickly adopted the image of a wild galloping horse as the symbol of this classic car.

The first generation Toronados are some of the most sought after luxury cars of the 1960s. Produced from 1966-1970, the first generation cars continue to escalate in value. The mix of power and luxury is amazing. In 1966, the Oldsmobile Toronado won the Motor Trend Car of the year award.

This beautiful original condition car is a time capsule of lifelong care by its two owners. It was sold new to Rex B. Miller of Atlanta, Georgia by Red Springs North Carolina Oldsmobile on March 23, 1968. It remained with Mr. Miller until purchased by owner #2 of Macon, Georgia in November, 2006. This Toronado has excellent original factory paint in Provincial White, mint factory dark red vinyl interior and headliner, new carpet, pristine original dash and door panels, and beautiful original chrome. The attractive color combination makes this car a real show stopper.

The car is equipped with the the famous original Oldsmobile 455 cubic inch, 375HP V-8 engine, 4BBL carb and automatic transmission. The engine was rebuilt within the last 2,000 miles. Other features include: 100% laser straight, accident & rust free sheet metal, excellent chrome and soft trim throughout, power steering & brakes, tilt & tele wheel, power windows & seats, cold factory air conditioning, original AM radio and speakers, original working clock, factory wheels and newer white wall radial tires, original window sticker and bill of sale, and only 66K original miles.

1970 Chevrolet Corvette
1970 Chevrolet Corvette "Sting Ray" LT1 convertible
so you like fast cars, huh? this one's a rocket!!...

In 1953 General Motors introduced the Chevrolet Corvette, the first American made sports car. It was a stylish two-seat convertible, built by hand and powered by a 235 cu.-in. 6-cylinder engine that generated 150 horsepower. After many decades of large, lumbering automobiles, GM decided that America was ready for a smaller, faster vehicle to compete with the European nameplates like Jaguar and MG.

Although sales climbed in 1954, they fell off dramatically in 1955 setting off rumors that the Corvette might be a short-lived automotive experiment. Zora Arkus-Duntov, an engineer on the Corvette team since 1953 and a former European road racer, set out to give Corvette better performance and better handling. Without his help, Corvette production would have been halted. Corvette's evolution into a 'true' sports car actually began in 1955 when a 265 cu.-in. V8 that generated 195 horsepower was offered. Driving a prototype V8-powered Corvette, Zora Arkus-Duntov set a new record at Daytona at just over 150 miles per hour. Meanwhile, Ford introduced the Thunderbird which outsold the Corvette by a ratio of 23 to one. To counter this, Corvette received its first major styling update in 1956 and a performance boost in 1957. The 283 cu.-in. V8 was modified with fuel injection to produce an unprecedented 283 horsepower. In 1958 the fuel-injected 283 cu.-in. V8 was producing up to 290 horsepower.

In 1960, Corvette production topped the 10,000 mark for the first time. It was now carving out a solid niche in the market and becoming a part of American culture. In each year between 1960 and 1962, performance and styling enhancements made it more and more appealing. In 1962, engine displacement was increased to 327 cu.-in. and top horsepower was up to 360.

In 1963, Chevrolet unveiled its all-new concept -- the "Stingray". This was the first time Corvette was available as a hardtop coupe as well as the traditional convertible. Both featured a streamlined appearance and improved passenger accomodations. It was the first year for concealed headlamps. The American public loved the Sting Ray because they were fast machines that looked supersonic even when parked. The Sting Ray was the automotive success story of the year. Chevrolet had to add a second shift to its St. Louis, Missouri assembly plant to keep up with demand, and dealers kept buyers waiting months for their cars to be built. By the end of the model year, Corvette production would surpass the 20,000-unit milestone. The Sting Ray continued the Corvette evolution through the mid-sixties.

Corvette received its most radical styling change in 1968. Bearing a striking resemblance to Chevrolet`s "Mako Shark" concept vehicle, it literally changed the way people looked at cars. The original high-performance LT1 engine, a 350 cu.-in. which generated 370 horsepower, was introduced in 1970. An outstanding example of the 1970 LT1 is presented here. It is a documented 'numbers matching' 4-speed manual transmission convertible with bronze paint, a black interior, and a white top. As you can see from the photos, it is a stunning automobile. This is a rare and desirable car as there are only 88 LT1 convertibles known to remain in existence.

The Corvette has a fascinating place in Americana. This sports car changed the landscape of the American road in the middle of the twentieth century. The post-war generation fell in love with the Corvette, and that love affair is still going strong.

1974 GMC Jimmy Sierra Grande truck
1974 GMC Jimmy Sierra Grande truck
Extremely nice numbers matching 1974 GMC Jimmy Sierra Grande, originally from Arizona. Runs and runs and drives great with a 350 V8 automatic. Power steering, power brakes, duel exhaust, full time 4 wheel drive, 12 bolt rear end, brand new tires. Body is incredible, no patch panels, beautiful two-toned paint. These trucks are very hard to find with the original motor, seats and chrome. This truck can go as a convertible and the bed rails are perfect. White hard top can be installed for the cold weather. This is pretty close to what you'd be seeing in a GMC showroom in 1974. Could very well be the best truck you've ever owned.

Sears
Sears "BLOW HORN" porcelain trucking road coutesy sign
Sears, Roebuck and Co., or Sears, is a mid-range American chain of department stores which was founded by Richard Warren Sears and Alvah Curtis Roebuck in the late 19th century. Richard Warren Sears was a railroad station agent in North Redwood, Minnesota, when he received an impressive shipment of watches from a Chicago jeweler. Sears purchased them, then sold the watches for a considerable profit to other station agents, then ordered more for resale. Soon he started a business selling watches through mail order catalogs. The next year, he moved to Chicago, Illinois where he met Alvah C. Roebuck, who joined him in the business. In 1893, the corporate name became Sears, Roebuck and Co. The first Sears catalog was published in 1888. By 1894, the Sears catalog had grown to 322 pages, featuring sewing machines, bicycles, sporting goods, automobiles and a host of other new items. Sears, Roebuck and Co. soon developed a reputation for quality products and customer satisfaction. By 1895, the company was producing a 532-page catalog. Sales were greater than $400,000 in 1893 and more than $750,000 two years later. The first Sears retail store opened in Chicago on February 2, 1925 in the Merchandise Building. This store included an optical shop and a soda fountain. The first freestanding retail store opened October 5, 1925 in Evansville, Indiana. During the summer of 1928 three more department stores opened in Chicago. In 1929 Sears took over the department store business of Becker-Ryan Company. In 1933 Sears tore down the old Becker-Ryan Company store in Englewood, and built the first windowless department store, inspired by the 1932 Chicago World's Fair. From the 1920s to the 1950s, Sears built many urban department stores. Starting in the 1950s, the company expanded into suburban markets, and malls in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1959, it had formed the Homart Development Company for developing malls.

Presented here is a rare and amusing and possibly one-of-a-kind Sears truck sign. It reads "Blow Horn/I'll Move Over/Your Sears Driver". It was most probably riveted to the back of a Sears truck as a courtesy to other drivers on America's highways in the 1940s and 50s. First I've seen in over 30 years of collecting and trading.

Sinclair gasoline gas station ULTRAVIOLET RAY Sanitized REST ROOMS porcelain display sign
Sinclair gasoline gas station ULTRAVIOLET RAY Sanitized REST ROOMS porcelain display sign
For a very short while back in the early 1950s, Sinclair gas stations hung a contraption from their restroom ceilings that produced an ultraviolet ray which they claimed would kill germs and sanitize the lavatory. Apparently it was blamed for several health problems and was quickly discontinued. Production of these signs, which were manufactured at that time, was also discontinued.
Offered here is an extremely rare Sinclair gasoline and oil gas station restroom sign announcing the ultraviolet ray sanitized rest room. It is single-sided, porcelain on metal and has all of the original grommets. It is dated 1950 at the bottom. It is in high grade condition with excellent color and gloss and is one of only a handful known to exist.

VENTURE INTO SPACE booklet
VENTURE INTO SPACE booklet
The United States space program began in the mid-1950s when the Air Force began working on satellite systems for reconnaissance efforts and for scientific advancement. It was a widely held belief that the country which first made significant achievements in space travel would be recognized as the world leader in military and scientific pursuits.

Many feel that the United States did not exploit its initial postwar advantage over Soviet technology. There is evidence to support the conclusion that American science could have pushed the nation into the space age ahead of the Russians. The key event was the successful launch of a satellite, and the U.S. failed to take the initiative. There would have been enormous advantages to such an undertaking: enhanced national prestige, a lead in the space race, and benefits to national security. The U.S. was dismayed when the Soviets put up Sputnik in October 1957 and in the furor that followed, an epidemic of 'space fever' swept our nation.

At the height of the space race, the American Oil Company published this beautifully illustrated informational booklet. As the title suggests, it deals with outer space and our attempts to explore and conquer this vast and unknown territory. When unfolded, it becomes a huge wall-size poster.
