Who else but Andy Warhol would use a shopping bag as a canvas...?

Warhol was well known for his 'pop art' images of everyday objects such as Campbell's Soup cans, Brillo boxes, and Volkswagons. Through these images, and the shopping bag in particular, Warhol was making a statement about the "consumer-ization" of America.

These screenprinted shopping bags were published at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston in October 1966. This example is an outlandish orange, red, blue and purple tomato soup can, professionally mounted and framed to 23" x 30".
